With the second home meet in two weeks the Wolverines were able to compete on a familiar course without having to travel. The day allowed for many new athletes to represent the Varsity and show the depth of the program.
With only two high school races all the athletes of each gender ran at once. The first gender to race was the girls. The team was led by an 18th place finish and a time of 23:23 from Freshman Audrynn Street. Audrynn continues to get stronger each week that she runs. She was followed closely by Sophomore Pauline Boulenger in 20th place. Next across the line was another freshman Emma Murphy in a PR of 23:44. Team scoring was rounded out by Sophomore Aaliyanah Hubert-Combs in 24:23 and Sophomore Therali Merry in 24:56. Their efforts helped produced a sixth place showing on the girls side. Impressive work from a young group or runners new to the program.
The boys race followed in more cloud cover and cooler temperatures. The boys were led by Senior Brenden Worley running another PR of 18:36 which was good enough for 15th place. He was followed in an epic finish line battle with Freshman Sylas Chambers who finished one second behind in 18:37. Not far in the rears of Brenden and Sylas, Freshman Baylor Lewis finished in 20th place in 18:45. Closing out the team scoring were Senior Beau Shenkenberg in 20:10 and Sophomore Cory Shea in 20:12. Their results were good enough for a fifth place finish on the day.
Overall the meet was a success and allowed new athletes the opportunity to be scoring Varsity runners. It also showed the runners that they stack up nicely with other region teams. The Wolverines are next in action at the City Meet this coming Wednesday at Josephine Jones Park.
